From the Archive: ‘Review: Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue’ (June 16th 2018)

As I near the end of my first tube of Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue I thought it would be a good time to share my love for this product!

I originally purchased this in preparation for starting Roaccutane, anticipating that my skin would become too dry to continue using my other current favourite foundation, the L’Oreal Infallible Matte Foundation. Due to the Complexion Rescue being a little bit more pricey at £28, I decided to go to my nearest Bare Minerals counter at Debenhams and get colour matched beforehand. I definitely didn’t want to run the risk of spending that much and having an orange face – a mistake that I have unfortunately made in the past!

The process was really easy, and the lady at the counter was super friendly. She matched me with the shade Opal 01 (I’m definitely glad I got colour matched as this was a completely different shade to the one I had guessed would be my colour when researching the range online!).

The texture of this foundation is hydrating, and the coverage, while light, is slightly heavier than a tinted moisturiser. It also has SPF 30, which is never a bad thing to have a little extra sun protection! (I still always wear a separate SPF under my makeup every day – my favourite is the Heliocare 360 Gel Oil Free SPF 50).

Upon first use I really wasn’t sure I was going to get on with this foundation. The light coverage was such a departure from my reliable matte/ high coverage L’Oreal makeup, that I felt shiny and exposed – something which I particularly struggled with as it gave little-to-no coverage of my very prominent acne. Choosing which makeup to wear while being on Roaccutane has been a tricky one, especially when it comes to finding the balance between covering up acne which I’m insecure about, and trying not to draw attention to the increasing number of patches of dry, flaky skin.

However, as I have continued to use this foundation daily I have grown to really really love it. I find that my skin looks healthy and glowy while wearing it, it feels lightweight and comfortable to wear during the warmer weather, and more importantly it looks natural. It’s low maintenance and quick to apply. I did have to learn to adjust my application at the beginning, as I found it to look a little streaky, but I soon found this easy enough to fix by blending it with the Real Techniques Base Brush which I absolutely love! I imagine a makeup sponge would help a lot with this too.

As my skin has slowly started to clear up, I am beginning to be less bothered about my acne being so visible. That being said if you prefer your base makeup to have more coverage, or if you have particularly oily skin then this product may not be the one for you.

At the minute I am really loving using this foundation, and it is working really well with my skin currently. I plan on repurchasing once I have finished this bottle too.

Have you used the Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue before? How did you find it? Let me know below if you have any dry skin friendly makeup recommendations!
